Let’s start by answering the most pressing question … What exactly is CBG?

Well, just like THC and CBD, CBG (or cannabigerol by its full name) is a cannabinoid.

And what’s a cannabinoid?

A cannabinoid is “any of various naturally-occurring, biologically active, chemical constituents (such as cannabidiol or cannabinol) of hemp or cannabis including some (such as THC) that possess psychoactive properties,” according to our good friend Merriam Webster.

Now if you zoned out halfway through reading that definition (don’t worry… I did too), in layman’s terms, cannabinoids are the chemical compounds that make up a cannabis plant and essentially serve as its “active ingredients.” That means they’re what is responsible for the effects you feel when using any cannabis- or hemp-based product.

And while some cannabinoids (like THC) do possess psychoactive properties, CBG is not psychoactive. So you won’t get that head high associated with THC.

What CBG does offer is a host of healing benefits, which I’ll discuss in detail in the next section.

So, why are most people just now hearing about it?

Well, CBG is a lesser-known cannabinoid because it’s much less abundant in the cannabis plant than THC or CBD.

But that doesn’t make it any less important.

In fact, CBG is considered “the mother of all cannabinoids” because, in its acidic form, CBG is essentially the precursor (or think of it as a stem cell) to every single other cannabinoid. And there are literally 100-plus cannabinoids.

Because CBG is “step one” in cannabinoid development, it makes sense that it’s more prevalent in younger cannabis plants before the other cannabinoids, like THC and CBD, have had the opportunity to develop.

This also explains why it’s so much less commonly featured as the main ingredient in the mass of cannabis- and hemp-based tinctures and topical creams that are currently taking over the shelves of your local health food store.

Because growers were traditionally focused on extracting THC and CBD, cannabis plants weren’t typically harvested until they’re mature because that’s when the concentrations of CBD and THC are in the highest quantities.

But, as we just learned, by the time cannabis plants are mature to yield the highest concentrates of THC and CBD, only trace amounts of CBG remain.

Make sense?

Those looking for CBG products shouldn’t worry, though, because as famed cannabis enthusiast, Bob Dylan, once said, “oh, the times they are a-changin’.”

As researchers continue to learn more about CBG and its long list of therapeutic benefits, scientists are experimenting with different breeding and extraction methods designed to yield higher concentrates of CBG.

In due time and with additional research, CBG is likely to become equally as prevalent as CBD and THC currently are in cannabis and hemp-based products. You heard it here first.

And that’s why we’re here to help you stay one step ahead by teaching you everything there is to know about CBG.

cbg oil science

Now that you know what it is and where it comes from, you’re probably wondering what CBG can do for you.

The answer: a lot.

While studies involving CBG can be limited compared to the abundance of existing research surrounding CBD and THC, CBG shows great promise and potential to become one of “the next big things” in holistic health.

A few of the top possible benefits researchers are looking at CBG for include:

  • Support for healthy levels of pain: Self-explanatory. But as the research into this possible perk continues, you might be saying “goodbye bedside bottle of Ibuprofen, hello CBG oil.”
  • Support for healthy levels of bacteria: This is a benefit of all major cannabinoids, but CBG especially has proven itself effective as a possible antibacterial agent. And currently,€ it’s tested against different strains of one of the toughest bugs: the staphylococcus bacterium. This suggests CBG could eventually be used topically to support real significant changes in skin health. If you’ve ever accidentally come across photos of a staph infection in your high school science textbook, you know this is great news.
  • Support for healthy levels of inflammation: Studies have shown that CBG may be effective in supporting healthy levels of inflammation. This suggests that CBG has the potential to help those suffering from a number of different conditions including arthritis and muscle and joint pain as well as chronic diseases like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
  • Support for brain health: Research suggests that CBG acts as both an antioxidant and a powerful supporter of the central nervous system. In fact, one study even looked into the possibility of CBG to preserve neurons in neurodegenerative diseases like Huntington’s disease, which is a progressive brain disorder causing loss of cognitive ability. And the results look promising. Pretty amazing, right?
  • Support healthy appetite: In one study involving mice, researchers found that rats who were given CBG prior to eating a meal doubled their overall food intake compared to those given a simple placebo, suggesting that CBG could be a useful treatment for those suffering from eating disorders such as anorexia.
  • Support for bladder health: One study tested five different cannabinoids to determine which was most effective at supporting healthy muscle contractions within the bladder, and CBG came out on top, which suggests it could one day aid helpt more people naturally
  • Support for anxiety: Results from multiple studies suggest that, like other cannabinoids, CBG is a powerful, natural way to support anxiety, including social anxiety.
  • Support for mental health: Early studies suggest that CBG may act as a natural mood lifter.

I believe CBG has the potential to provide life-changing relief.

And the best part of all? This list is only expected to grow (!!!) as research into CBG and its abilities continue.

CBD recently burst onto the health and wellness scene for its plethora of therapeutic qualities, including the ability to support pain management, healthy levels of anxiety, sleep quality, support healthy skin, support digestion, and so much more.

Something sound familiar? You’re not experiencing deja-vu.

We don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but that’s because the benefits of CBD are pretty similar to the previously-mentioned benefits of CBG.

So what’s the big difference between CBG and CBD?

Well, the truth is the two are a lot alike.

But, instead of thinking about it like CBD versus CBG, we prefer to think of it as CBD plus CBG.

Because like you and your best friend (or you and your pet because everyone knows pets make the *best* best friends), CBD and CBG are better together than apart!

How so? Research has shown that the effects of cannabinoids are actually enhanced when combined, which is oh-so-appropriately called the “entourage effect.”

And when CBD and CBG specifically are used alongside one another, these two potent non-intoxicating cannabinoids create a holistic effect:

  • to bind to our cannabinoid receptors and
  • to stimulate production of our own edocannabinoids to balance mind and body.

Meaning this powerful duo can actually help you naturally manage your own edocannabinoid systems. And that’s pretty freakin’ awesome.

When purchasing virtually anything these days, there’s always a risk of not getting what you anticipated and ending up disappointed.

This is especially true in the world of cannabis because, after being unfairly victimized for so many years, bad companies have surfaced.

And they’ve been presented with the unique (and extremely unfair) opportunity to take advantage of the people’s unfamiliarity and excitement about the potential health benefits of hemp-based products.

Unless you’re involved in the development process first-hand (meaning you’d pretty much have to be a scientist), you’re placing a huge amount of trust that the company you’ve decided to purchase from offers products backed by research and meet quality standards. (…more about this below.)

But don’t let this scare you.

Choosing an oil doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

By arming yourself with proper knowledge, you too can prevent yourself from being “hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hoodwinked, led astray!!!” (Credit and much thanks to Ja Rule for that incredible quote.)

Here’s how to choose a CBG oil in three simple steps:

  1. Look for a company you can trust. Find a company that shares its products’ full ingredient lists and has lab results readily available. Unless they’re hiding something (yikes… that’s bad news), they should willingly share this information with consumers. On top of that, it’s also not a bad idea to look for a company that offers a money-back guarantee. While that may sound a bit like an infomercial (and give you flashbacks to Billy Mays and OxiClean), this is a telling sign that they fully back the product they’re selling. At Hemple, we offer a 30-day, money-back guarantee on every single one of our products. This is because we truly believe in our products and feel certain that once you try them, you will too.
  2. Don’t expect magic. Now that science is confirming what those in the natural health community have known for decades, the claims about what all cannabis-based supplements can do for our health are getting a bit out of hand.Neither CBG, CBD, THC or any cannabinoid is capable of miracles. Remember, these are supplements. Meaning, in order to be effective, they need to complement a healthy diet and lifestyle. If you’re expecting magic (and if companies are trying to sell you on that), you’re only going to end up disappointed.
  3. Be open to experimentation. Our bodies are all different. And just because one supplement or product does wonders for one person doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll experience the exact same results. We suggest experimenting with different cannabis and hemp-based products based on what you as an individual and your body needs. If one specific product doesn’t deliver the results you’d hoped for, don’t give up. Give another a try.

Again, that’s exactly why Hemple offers a 30-day, money-back guarantee on every single one of our products. We want you to have the opportunity to try all of our products risk-free and want you to give us your feedback on what did and didn’t work for you.
